Another useful method is to receive a personal recommendation
from a friend, family member or work colleague. In a similar way to
the professional review, the personal recommendation is very much an
individual perspective, and it is always possible that what they
love, you hate and vice versa, but it will serve to give you a good
overall impression.
Once you have selected a handful of promising Australian B&B’s to choose
from, the next stage is to exclude those that don’t have the
specific facilities you’re looking for. It may be that you require
an evening meal, maybe with vegetarian options, or are looking for
properties with en-suite bathrooms only, or you are planning a
romantic weekend away with your loved one and would like the luxury
of a four-poster bed. Whatever your requirements, a simple telephone
call, or email, will provide the answer. For most people price is a
primary concern, unless you’re planning a no-expense-spared break,
and now is a good time to establish the total cost for each B&B.
Those that are too expensive can be removed from your short-list.
Similarly, those that have no availability on your chosen date(s)
can be removed from your list.
So now you should have a short-list of properties that have been
recommended, that have the facilities you require, are within your
budget and have availability for your chosen date(s). To finally
decide on an establishment it is worth checking the location. Is the
property on a main road or hidden away? If you are seeking a quiet
relaxing break you won’t want to be situated on a busy main road.
Alternatively, if you want to be within walking distance of shops
and restaurants, you won’t want to be perched halfway up a hillside,
three miles from the nearest shop.
You should now have a clear favourite and should be on the phone
reserving your room straight away. Good B&B’s are extremely popular
and it is wise to book early. All that is left to do then is to turn
up, enjoy your stay and maybe give yourself a pat on the back that
you left nothing to chance in choosing a good B&B.
